About Our School

Mission Statement

The mission of Orchard Elementary School is to educate children to reach their potential academically, physically, socially and emotionally.  The faculty and staff will provide quality-learning experiences in a safe, clean and nurturing environment.

The History of Orchard Elementary

Established in September 1958, Orchard Elementary School initially operated on a double session schedule with Forest Hill Elementary School. At that time, there was no building to house the facility, staff, or student body.

In the fall of 1959, Orchard’s second school year, students were bussed to Raphael Semmes School (also known as Continuous Learning Center). Dedicated on May 1, 1960, a new school building consisting of twelve classrooms, a library, a cafeteria, and an office space became Orchard Elementary School's new home.

Due to an increased population, a second wing was constructed. This wing also consisted of twelve classrooms. Orchard added a third wing in 1997 to accommodate continuous growth.

Today, Orchard Elementary School is home to over 450 students in Kindergarten through Fifth grade. Orchard Elementary School is accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as well as the Alabama State Department of Education.
